Preview: Bayern München vs Real Madrid

Two of the very best teams in Europe will clash together in this Champions League quarter-final

On Wednesday, the first leg between Bayern München and Real Madrid will take place. The two European powerhouses both have the same aim which is to win the tournament.

Last time the two sides met, was in the semi-finals in 2013/14. Back then, Carlo Ancelotti was the Real Madrid manager, but he is now in charge of Bayern München. Back then, Bayern lost unexpected 4-0 at Allianz Arena, which was their heaviest defeat in European football on home soil ever.

Real Madrid went on to win the Champions League against Atletico Madrid in extra time in the final at the Estádio da Luz in Lissabon.

Bayern München and Real Madrid has met 22 times in European competitions. 20 of those coming in 10 double legged knockout ties. Both teams have won 5 times each in their knockouts.

Bayern München have a great home form. The team has scored 29 goals in the last six games at the Allianz Arena, and recently they won 4-1 against Borussia Dortmund. Bayern haven’t lost a single game at home this season with 18 wins and 3 draws from 21 matches.

Real Madrid’s most recent game ended in a 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid, which stretched their unbeaten run to 9 matches.

Real Madrid defeated Napoli in the round of 16 with a 6-2 aggregate score, winning both the home match and the away match with 3-1.

The clash between the two sides will take place on Wednesday with kick off at 20:45 CET at the Allianz Arena in München.
