Preview: Slovakia U21- England U21

The battle for the semi-finals is on! England is under pressure, as they face group leaders Slovakia.

Surprisingly, it is Slovakia, who start today’s match in Kielce as group A leaders with 2 points ahead of England. Pavel Hapal’s players dream about another good result, while Adrian Boothroyd’s side will do anything to get the 3 points and advance to the semi-finals of the tournament.

In the first round, England played a goalless draw against Sweden, as Everton’s recent signing Jordan Pickford saved a penalty kick in the end of the match, which saved the point.

In regards to opponents Slovakia, their opening game began in the worst possible way, as they conceded a goal in the first minute of the game against Poland. However, they stepped up their game and eventually won the game 2:1. They will be in the more comfortable situation before today’s match.

England will be looking for their first goal of the tournament today, as their striker Tammy Abraham looks as the main threat, scoring more than 20 goals this season for his side- Bristol City. Slovakian defender Milan Skriniar said at the pre-match conference that his team is fully aware of the striker’s abilities.

“We know he’s a tough one in the box,” he said.

England’s head coach Adrian Boothroyd reminded before the game, that in order to get an automatic promotion, England needs to top the group and today’s game will be decisive.

The game starts tonight at 18:00 CET at Kielce Stadium. Lithuanian referee Gediminas Mazeik is set to officiate the match.
