FIFA Confederations Cup first stage, Group B
Written by – Nikolay Nikolov, June 24, 2017.
Highlights before the game:
- Germany need just a point to advance to the semi-finals
- Cameroon must win by two goals to reach the last four
- Cameroon have previously reached the final, Germany has won 3rd place
After a loss to Chile and a draw against Australia, Cameroon are in a difficult position. In order to reach the semi-finals of the tournament, they must not only defeat the reigning world champions but also to do so by two clear goals.
The last three meeting of the two nations finished with 2 wins for Germany and a 2-2 draw when the two nations last played in June 2014.
Germany’s young team has been going well so far in Russia as they dominated Australia and were solid versus Chile. During the five major tournaments in which coach Joachim Low has participated, Germany has always managed to proceed to the semi-finals and a draw or a win tomorrow would see that run continue.
In regards to Cameroon, they have fielded the same starting line-up twice now and head coach Hugo Broos will likely stick with the majority of the team that had some positive moments, especially in the second half against Australia.
Here are the possible line-ups for the game:
Germany: Kevin Trapp; Matthias Ginter, Shkodran Mustafi, Antonio Rudiger; Joshua Kimmich, Emre Can; Leon Goretzka, Jonas Hector; Julian Draxler, Amin Younes; Timo Werner.
Cameroon: Fabrice Ondoa; Ernest Mabouka, Adolphe Teikeu, Michael Ngadeu Ngadjui, Collins Fai; Sebastien Siani, Arnaud Djoum, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa; Christian Bassogog, Vincent Aboubakar, Benjamin Moukandjo.
The game will be played tomorrow at the Fisht Stadium Sochi at 18:00 CET.
