Xavi: It’s bizarre that a player doesn’t want to stay at Barcelona

Xavi has commented on the transfer of Neymar and compares the transfer with Luis Figo’s move to Real Madrid 17 years ago

The former Barca captain is stunned and surprised that a player wishes to leave Barcelona, and compares the transfer with that of Luis Figo, who left Barca for Real Madrid in the forbidden move in year 2000.

The midfielder told Le Parisien the following: “It was his decision and you have to respect it,”

“It’s a personal choice.”

“Players today move to where they’re wanted the most. But nobody could have imagined that he’d leave Barcelona.”

“It’s bizarre that a player doesn’t want to stay at Barcelona. It’s very rare.”

“It’s been 17 years since Luis Figo left for Real Madrid. As with Neymar, it was his choice at the time.”

“I do not know how it happened, if there were meetings, conversations… there are many interpretations of this transfer record.”

Xavi then went on to criticize Neymar for only giving fans a short notice on social media as he departed the club.

“I understand the fans are upset because Neymar gave no explanation,”

“He left Barcelona without a press conference or anything… but hey, that’s how it is.”

“We’ll see what he can give to PSG. What I’m sure of is that Barcelona did not expect a club to pay the 222 million euro release clause.”

“Now they have to manage that money.”
