Real Madrid reaching for the trophy after an impressive first leg of the Spanish Super Cup

Los Blancos wiped out The Catalans 3-1 in a typical El Clásico packed with action.

Real Madrid have made the first step towards winning the Spanish Super Cup. Zidane’s men got the better of Barcelona in a 3-1 win at Camp Nou, which gives them a comfortable lead ahead of the second leg at the Bernabéu.

The game was full of action and intense moments. Los Blancos were the first ones to score after Gerard Piqué scored an own goal in the 50th minute. However, Lionel Messi put things back to level in the 77th minute from a penalty, won by Luiz Suarez. The penalty itself caused a lot of controversy as the Uruguayan forward fell way too easily on the ground and it appeared that the referee’s decision was wrong.

Cristiano Ronaldo was the one to put Madrid back on the driving seat as he scored a beautiful goal in the 80th minute with a diagonal shot, which left Barcelona’s goalkeeper helpless. Following the goal Ronaldo decided to celebrate by taking his shirt off, which proved a mistake in the following minutes. Just two minutes after scoring, Ronaldo lost his balance and fell on the ground as the referee gave him a second yellow for simulation, which saw Los Blancos end the game with 10 men and without Cristiano in the second leg of the Super Cup.

Despite being with one less on the pitch, Zidane’s men managed to score one more through Asensio in the final minutes of the game, wrapping up a comfortable 3-1 win ahead of the second leg.
