The unclear situation of Ousmane Dembele has costed the young forward his place in the France squad.
After having refused to train with Borussia Dortmund in order to force a transfer to Barcelona, Dembele was left out of the squad that Didier Deschamps called for the World Cup qualification matches against Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Deschamps said about his decision: “Ousmane didn’t train for 15 days, he is waiting a possible transfer, fighting with his club. I cannot call up an inactive player. It’s the problem of the player and his advisors to decide what is best. I talked to him and I hope things will change fast.”
Deschamps hinted that he does not agree with the player’s behaviour towards his own club: “It’s annoying that he has put himself in this situation. If he goes on the desired way, it will be less difficult for him. If he will remain in Dortmund, it will be hard to manage the relationship with the club and the teammates.”
Although Kilyan Mbappe’s situation is similar to the one of Dembele, Monaco’s forward was called up. “It’s similar, but the situation is a bit different. But, there is also a lot of noise around him as well”, Deschamps said.
