Neymar is a superstar in his home country where 85 million people followed his official presentation as a PSG player.
The French club’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, revealed in an interview for The Daily Telegraph a conversation that he had with the owner of one of the biggest TV channels in Brazil: “I had a discussion with the owner of Globo TV in Brazil and he told me:
‘How many persons in Brazil do you think have followed Neymar’s presentation? Not the first match, just the presentation.’
I said five million. He said no. The I said 10 million and he answered: ‘No, 85 million.’ It’s unbelievable”, Al-Khelaifi said.
PSG’s president then discussed about one of the problems they have at the moment: “Today we have a big problem to solve – we don’t have enough shirts. I was in the United States last week and I saw PSG’s shirt everywhere. Things are the same in Asia, Latin America and Middle East.”
PSG transfered Neymar Jr. from Barcelona this summer, paying his €222m release clause, making the Brazilian the most expensive player in football history. Towards the end of the transfer window, the Parisians also secured the services of Kylian Mbappe, who joined on loan. PSG have an obligation to pay €180m to Monaco next summer, making Mbappe the second most expensive player in history.
