The Spaniard has proven crucial to the Blues from Stamford Bridge.
Cesar Azpilicueta is one of the best in his position, according to Chelsea’s head coach Antonio Conte. The Blues’ No.28 has been a bedrock for his team for the past few seasons and even got himself on the scoresheet in a thumping 6-0 win against Qarabag in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old’s consistency has been remarkable as he played every minute of Chelsea’s victorious campaign in the Premier League last season.
Conte could not hide his satisfaction with the expressive win in the Champions League, but also praised Azpilicueta, insisting he should be considered as one of the best defenders.
“Last season Azpi was one of the most important players for us,” the Italian said, according to MetroUK.
“In this position as a central defender he is one of the best in the world. He is very good with and without the ball.
“He’s a fantastic guy, he’s always positive, and during the training sessions he works in a fantastic way.
“For a coach to have him is a dream.”
The Blues’ next fixture will be a London derby against Arsenal on Sunday.
