The Blues came back on the European scene with a confident 6-0 win against Qarabağ.
Chelsea have started brilliantly their Champions League campaign after an expressive home win at Stamford Bridge. The Blues midfielder Cesc Fàbregas could not hide his satisfaction with his team’s performance.
Pedro Rodriguez, Davide Zappacosta, César Azpilicueta, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Michy Batshuayi were accurate for the Premier League club while the last goal was an own goal by Maksim Medvedev following a cross by Zappacosta.
“We have been waiting for a long time to be back playing in the Champions League,” Cesc told BT Sport. “Finally it arrived. It was a good performance and a good result.”
“You never know if these goals can count [for something] at the end of the group stage. We just have to keep going now.”
Despite the thumping 6-0 win, Fàbregas insisted that his team will need some time to get back on the right track due to the busy schedule.
“We just have to take it game by game now,” he continued. “We are focused on Arsenal – a tough, tough game – on Sunday. It’s a very difficult period for us.
“You can see that the coach rotated five players. We have seven games in 21 days – that’s not what we are used to after last year. The Champions League is a competition that last year wasn’t there.”
