The Croatian midfielder started last night’s match against APOEL but only lasted for 25 minutes.
Zinedine Zidane is starting to worry about the depth of his squad as his team’s injury list continues to grow. The latest name added to that list is Mateo Kovacic.
Real Madrid won their Champions League opening match of the new season, 3-0 against APOEL. However, despite the good news that came from Cristiano Ronaldo, who was able to play again and scored two goals, the match also brought some bad news.
In the 20th minute of the match, while playing a simple pass, Kovacic felt a puncture in the adductor of his right leg, according to Marca. The Croatian was unable to continue to match and had to leave the pitch in tears, being replaced by Toni Kross. The German started the game on the bench as per Zidane’s rotation policy.
It is not yet known the extent of Kovacic’s injury and how much action will the Croatian miss. He joins Karim Benzema on the sidelines, as Zidane will have to find solutions to play without them.
