Diego Costa has finally got what he wanted, as Atletico Madrid announced his transfer from Chelsea.
The Brazilian-born striker had his mind set on a return to Atletico and was unwilling to consider any other options. Costa refused to show up to Chelsea’s reunion and threatened to go on strike until a transfer to Madrid will be granted to him.
His actions came after Antonio Conte’s decision, at the end of last season, to inform the striker via a text message, that he doesn’t need his services anymore. Ever since then, Costa went to Brazil for holidays and refused to return to London.
But Diego Costa’s refusal to budge on his desire meant that Chelsea missed the chance to sell the player for the highest bid. According to Marca, Everton made an offer of €75m for the player, as they were ready to make him their biggest transfer in history. But Costa didn’t even want to hear about a potential move to Goodison Park and only cared about re-joining his former club, Atletico Madrid.
