John Terry with an emotional message to Diego Costa

Former Blues skipper is disappointed to see the Spaniard leave, but wishes him well.

Chelsea icon John Terry has bid an emotional farewell to “an unbelievable player” and “born winner” as the striker prepares for a move to Atletico Madrid.

After spending three successful years at Stamford Bridge, the Spain international has finally been given green light to complete his desired move to Los Rojiblancos. Diego Costa won two Premier League titles during his time at Chelsea, netting 20 goals in each of the winning campaigns, but was still deemed surplus to requirements by Antonio Conte at the end of 2016-17.

Despite the bust-up between the player and the club, former Chelsea skipper John Terry pain an emotional tribute to the forward through his social media as his post reads:

“Good luck Diego Costa in your next journey my friend.

“An unbelievable player and one of the nicest and funniest guys I have met in football, playing against him in training and games was an absolute nightmare, one of the best and underrated players I have played with and against.

“He gave everything for our club every time he wore a Chelsea shirt and was a born winner.

“Going to miss you mate. Good luck to you and your family.”
