Barcelona and Real Madrid are interested in the services of the RB Leipzig forward.
Timo Werner is under the radar of the Spanish giants as both clubs seek to bolster their attacking options. The German striker signed with RB Leipzig from Stuttgart last year, but has enjoyed a stunning campaign, scoring 21 goals in 31 games. His incredible performances have seemingly impressed a number of European giants with Barca and Madrid leading the race for his signature.
A report by Spanish daily Mundo claims that both clubs see Werner as a valuable signing that will help them boost their attacking options.
The Catalans’ sporting director Robert Fernandez has been tracking the 21-year-old for a long time and has been closely following the striker’s development for the last campaign. Despite having Paco Alcacer as an option, he has been quite disappointing since he joined from Valencia last summer.
Meanwhile Real Madrid are yet to find a replacement for departed Alvaro Morata, who joined Chelsea during the close-season for a fee of £70m.
What makes the possibility of signing Timo Werner is the fact his contract does not include a huge release clause, which makes a possible move much easier, given the current situation of the transfer market and the off-putting mamooth releacse clauses of lots of players.
Adding up to those rumours, Werner has stated more than once that he is happy with his life at RB Leipzig, but would not decline an opportunity to join a bigger club and seek further development of his career.
