Antoine Griezmann’s release clause at Atletico is set to decrease and many big clubs are monitoring his situation.
According to El Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are the latest club to have become interested in the services of Antoine Griezmann, after having learned that the French forward’s release clause at Atletico is set to decrease from €200m to €100m after the 1st of July 2018.
The source reports that the Catalans have made Griezmann their number one priority for next summer. Barcelona are still looking for a worthy replacement for Neymar, who left for PSG this summer. Ousmane Dembele has been brought in from Borussia Dortmund, but the 20-year-old got injured and his progress at Camp Nou has been halted.
Griezmann is still wanted by Manchester United, where Jose Mourinho would like to have him. The Red Devils tried to sign the 26-year-old this summer, but Atletico’s transfer ban made it impossible for Mourinho to get his man. However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona would be favourites to sign Griezmann for two two reasons: Romelu Lukaku would be very hard to take out of the first eleven of United and Griezmann’s wife would prefer to remain in Spain.
Antoine Griezmann arrived in Spain at the age of 14. He was a part of the youth academy of Real Sociedad, for which he played his first match in Primera. In 2014, Sociedad sold Griezmann to Atletico Madrid for €30m. Since then, the Frenchman played 167 matches and scored 86 goals in all competitions for Atletico.
