Despite being linked with a move away from the Emirates, it appears that Özil will remain at the Gunners.
Arsenal’s midfielder Mesut Özil is in positive talks with Arsenal regarding a contract extension, confirmed the player’s agent – Erkut Sogut.
The Germany international will be a free agent at the end of the season unless he puts pen to paper on a new deal with Wenger’s side. Manchester United and Barcelona are both interested in the services of the playmaker, but it appears that he would like to spend a few years more with Arsenal regardless of all the speculations around his future.
Özil has been subject of heavy criticism since the start of the season due to his poor showings on the pitch. Yet, the player is determined to prove his critics wrong and fight his way back. It is also understood that Özil’s situation is completely different from Alexis Sanchez’ situation as the Chilean is determined to leave the club.
Fortunately for all Arsenal and Wenger, Özil is in ‘good talks’ with the club about a new contract.
Sogut told Fanatik: “Mesut is glad to hear of Besiktas being interested in him, however, no proposal has reached us.”
“Even if that did happen, he wants to play in the Premier League for at least two to three more years.
“Our contact with Arsenal continues and we are moving in a positive direction.
