Borussia Dortmund’s striker was very close to a move to Camp Nou in the summer.
The Gabonese player, known for his desire to play for Real Madrid one day, proposed himself to Barcelona after the Catalans lost Neymar.
PSG made a huge statement when signing Neymar this summer, making him the most expensive transfer in football history. But Barcelona were very close to counter that move with another huge transfer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was very close to a move to Camp Nou. Borussia Dortmund were even willing to let their star striker go, but Barcelona decided against the move eventually. The Catalans were worried about the situation that Luis Suarez would be put in if they were to bring another world-class striker. It’s hard to believe Suarez and Aubameyang could play together in a team at the same time, both of them being veritable number nines.
However, Aubameyang still hopes for a big move to Spain, maybe even to Barcelona, where his good friend Ousmane Dembele now plays. The two have a very good relationship and Aubameyang paid a visit to Dembele recently. The French winger is still recovering from injury and is expecting to get back to action soon.
A move to Barcelona will definitely be a statement made by Aubameyang against Real Madrid. Dortmund’s striker revealed last year that he is a fan of Real Madrid since he was a little boy. But the Gabonese has been left very disappointed by Real’s lack of interest in his services.
Asked whether he still dreams of moving to Real Madrid, Aubameyang said: “I have no dream. I will never discuss Real Madrid again, they don’t want me! It’s over! But this is not a problem. I’m moving forward, I am well seen at Dortmund. I had an agreement with Borussia, I was free to leave, but nothing happened. It’s sort of a disappointment, but I am also happy to remain.”
