Messi signs new contract

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi reportedly signed a new contract with the Catalans

According to La Liga’s president Javier Tebas, the Argentine extended his contract with Barcelona.

Oscar Grau, CEO of Barca said the La Liga giants offered the striker a new lifetime deal, but questions were still raised about whether Messi has actually signed the documents.

According to Sky Sports, Tebas says Barcelona have informed him a contract has been signed unless he has been “lied to”.

“Messi has a contract which has been renewed,” the president told reporters at a Europa Press media event.

“Contracts are official when they are signed and not when it is announced that they have been signed.”

“Messi has signed with Barcelona, if I have not been lied to, he has signed,” Tebas revealed.

Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu stated back in September, that the Argentine phenomenon is already playing under a five-year deal that was signed on his behalf by Messi’s father.

However, this hasn’t been officially confirmed by the club, which raised questions amount supporters of the La Liga giants.

In Guillem Balague’s Q&A session with Sky Sports in October, he said: “Messi is getting paid according to the new contract. All that is missing is the picture with the president.”

Messi added fuel to the fire with his announcement last week. Then the Argentine said his dream is to play for his childhood club Newell’s Old Boys at some point.

“The desire is always playing for Newell’s, it is what I dreamed as a kid,” the 30-year-old told Argentine channel TyC Sports.

“When I went to the club I imagined playing in the Primera Division, but I do not know what’s going to happen in a few years.”

“I cannot say I’m going back because I do not know where I’m going to be,” he explained.

Even with the confirmation from La Liga’s president, fans are still waiting for an official confirmation from Barcelona about Messi’s future.
