FC Barcelona have stepped up their game, as it seems like the Catalan side are more than interested in Gremio central midfielder Arthur
According to GOAL, the Brazilian club are braced for bids from some of Europe’s biggest sides, with the player expected to fetch around €15-20 million.
The Brazilian youngster has been outstanding so far this season, and his performances earned the midfielder the attention of huge European clubs, including Ernesto Valverde’s side.
Robert Fernandez, Barcelona’s technical director, watched the 21-year-old as Gremio got their 1-0 victory against Lanus in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores final last week.
Fernandez was convinced with what he saw and apparently he wanted to delve deeper into the mentality and background of Arthur Melo.
The 21-year-old was recently called up to the senior national squad for two of their 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Chile.
He has been monitored by Barcelona since the beginning of the European season. However, he recently renewed his contract in Brazil and is committed to Gremio until 2021, with a release cause of around €50 million, GOAL continues.
The Brazilian club is aware of numerous European clubs’ interests, and expects offers of around €15-20m in January, which would reportedly be enough to secure the 21-year-old’s signature.
Arthur has been a crucial player for Gremio this season, as the youngster has appeared in 38 games for his side, in which he managed to score 2 goals and provided 1 assist.
In addition, Gremio’s prospect is not the only player Barcelona are monitoring.
Valverde’s side are also following the progress of Palmeiras defender Yerry Mina, as many say he could be another target for the La Liga giants in January.
Barcelona are currently leading the Spanish top-flight ahead of second-placed Valencia and third-placed rivals Real Madrid, as they face Real Murcia in the Spanish Cup on Wednesday, before hosting Celta Vigo in La Liga on the weekend.
