Zidane: Ronaldo will win his fifth Ballon d’Or

Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane says Cristiano Ronaldo will equal Lionel Messi in terms of Ballon d’Or awards next week

This year it’s Cristiano Ronaldo who is the favourite to win the most prestigious individual award in football, and his manager Zinedine Zidane claims the Portugal international deserves every last bit of the success he has achieved.

The French boss has no doubt that Ronaldo will pull level with Barcelona rival Lionel Messi and win a fifth Ballon d’Or next week, and says the Portuguese has the ambition to win more.

France Football are set to reveal the winner of world football’s most coveted individual award next Thursday, with competition between the era’s dominant players as fierce as ever, GOAL reports.

Zidane spoke to the media ahead of Real Madrid’s away game against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, and said even though Ronaldo is human, he’s not like most of us.

“Ronaldo’s human, just like us but he is very different at times. He has no limits, really. The fact that he’s going to win his fifth Ballon d’Or explains that. It’s just amazing,” the coach said.

“He deserves it as well. I’m sure Cristiano is going to win his fifth Ballon d’Or. It doesn’t surprise me. He wants more and more. He has the ambition to win a sixth or a seventh,” Zidane added.

The Frenchman concluded by saying: “I think he deserves the award for the season he’s had.”

If he wins, it’s not going to be Ronaldo’s first this year, as the Portuguese won the Best FIFA Men’s Player award in October, finishing ahead of Messi, while Neymar came in as third.

Despite many saying it should be the Real Madrid star who wins, a perhaps manipulated picture was leaked last month, but rumours suggested it was the front cover of December’s France Football magazine, featuring Messi as this year’s Ballon d’Or winner.
