La Liga giants Sevilla have denied rumours about them receiving an offer for Steven N’Zonzi from Arsenal, as chairman Jose Castro said they “don’t have an offer”
Reports had suggested that the midfielder was travelling to London to hold talks with Arsene Wenger’s side but that has been denied by the Liga club, GOAL understands.
It was the Spanish radio station COPE, who reported that the midfielder had to travel to London, so he could talk to the Gunners about a possible transfer. However, Sevilla said this was not the case.
Whatever the case may be, the former Stoke City player’s trip to the English capital further heightened speculation that he could be joining Arsene Wenger’s side sooner or later, GOAL continues.
Sevilla’s chairman Jose Castro told reporters: “N’Zonzi’s situation [being dropped] is due to a technical issue with the coaches and, as with all technical issues, he can change it.”
“He travelled to London to visit his son with our permission. There aren’t any offers to sign N’Zonzi. I can’t talk about clauses or prices if we don’t have an offer.”
“We respect the decision of our coaches, he is training with his team-mates but currently he isn’t playing. It’s a technical decision and the coaches have said in public that he can change this,” the chairman added.
Another fact that makes the whole story of N’Zonzi moving to the Emirates is the amount of game time he gets. The midfielder has not played a single first-team minute for the Spanish club, since coming off the bench at half-time in their 3-3 draw against Liverpool on November 21.
This season has been quite good for Berizzo’s side, who are currently fifth-placed in the Spanish top-flight, being level on points with Real Madrid, who are fourth right now, thanks to a better goal difference.
