Andrei Kanchelskis says he was lucky that he had a chance to play with Manchester United legend Eric Cantona, during his time at Old Trafford
As GOAL reports, technique, vision, passing… the Frenchman had it all according to his former Manchester United team-mate Andrei Kanchelskis. The ex-Russia winger says he feels privileged he was at United at the same time Cantona was.
Time passes by quick. Who would have thought it was already 25 years ago that Eric Cantona made his debut for Manchester United, coming on the pitch as a half-time substitute at Old Trafford? Wednesday marks the 25th anniversary of the beginning of a fantastic story for Manchester United and their fans.
Cantona’s arrival from Leeds United proved to be one of the best decisions Sir Alex Ferguson has ever made, as he collected 4 league titles, and two FA Cup trophies during the time Eric Cantona played there.
Kanchelskis joined United in 1991 and the livewire winger burned brightly alongside Cantona before falling out of favour with Ferguson and joining Everton in 1995, GOAL continues.
“I was very, very luck to play with Cantona,” the former Russia international told Omnisport, speaking at the signing of his book Russian Winters: The Story of Andrei Kanchelskis (deCoubertin).
“When he came to Manchester he was a different style of player [than we were used to]. He was very clever with good technique, good vision and good passing,” the former United player praised Cantona.
“I saw him score a lot of goals and he was a nice person. I was lucky to play with and against a lot of good players in Manchester, at Everton, in Italy but especially Eric. I was very comfortable playing with Eric. He was an excellent player,” he concluded.
The Red Devils host local rivals Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, as they are looking to get closer to Pep Guardiola’s men.
