Frank Lampard is becoming quite upset with the performances of Tiemoue Bakayoko as the Chelsea legend claimed that the Frenchman is “falling asleep” during the matches and he has to improve his work rate.
Bakayoko was part of yesterday’s squad when Chelsea was playing against Atletico Madrid – and to be said, he basically gave the lead to the guests. He failed to track Saul Niguez before the first goal of the game in the 56th minute and Chelsea failed to secure the top spot in the group also because of that failure. And Frank Lampard started to blame the midfielder’s concentration during the games.
The former England international spoke about Bakayoko after the match as he said, according to ESPN: “He sleeps. His concentration goes and at this level, you sleep for a second and it’s an easy goal for Atletico. I don’t know with Bakayoko. I think it’s well documented that he hasn’t settled quickly at Chelsea and English football in the Premier League as well and he has to come to grips with that.”
He added that the former Monaco player has to improve as Conte has got options how to replace him: “A moment’s sleeping today doesn’t work so he needs to improve but he’s [Antonio Conte] got options. [Danny] Drinkwater will play as well but hopefully, Bakayoko will improve.”
In the end, the former Chelsea and Manchester City player insisted that the potential opponents for Chelsea in the knockout stage are going to be tough: “Obviously PSG, we’re all talking about them and Barcelona, we all know what they have to offer. Chelsea fans will realistically look at Besiktas [as the easiest opponent] but it’s a draw so who knows, and again who knows where all these different teams are. Even if Chelsea do draw one of the bigger teams then what a game and if you’re going to win this competition you have to beat the big boys.”
