Guardiola urges his team to learn from the defeat

Pep Guardiola believes that his side will be even stronger following their last defeat as were beaten by Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 away from home and it was their first loss through the whole season.

It had been clear before the match that City will remain first in their group so Pep Guardiola gave a chance to players who haven’t been playing so much this season. Thanks to that win, the Ukrainian side managed to go through as well as they ended ahead of Napoli. As for Manchester City, Guardiola is sure that it will give his side something to work on.

The Spaniard spoke about this match and their first season’s loss as he said, according to Sky Sports: “It hurts. It is never nice to lose a game. But we have said many times we cannot win all the time, we are going to lose games. Today was the first. We needed to lose a game. It will be good for the club, for all of us and the media. People say things when you win a lot and you can forget that now.”

He praised his young players who were given a chance to shine: “I’m so pleased for Tosin (Adarabioyo), Phil (Foden) and Brahim (Diaz) and how well they played. We came here to win. We couldn’t but we were trying until the end to do so. I’m happy for the performance. Now we are going to rest, come back tomorrow and prepare for the game (against Manchester United).”

Guardiola also talked about the upcoming draw: “It always happens when the draw is made they talk about it but it depends on how the team arrives at that moment, on that day. Maybe you are good today but in February, you’re a disaster. Or the opposite. It will be tough. The contenders are tough but we are going to try.”
