Ilkay Gündogan, the Manchester City central midfielder, admitted that the current squad of the Citizens is probably the best one he has ever worked with in his entire career and he is certain that they can achieve great things.
Manchester City managed to beat their rivals, Manchester United, and they have won 15 matches in a row in their domestic competition (if we add there today’s win over Swansea too) – which has never happened before. To be added, the Citizens are now eleven points clear at the top of the Premier League table and they are about to win the title for the first time under Pep Guardiola.
The former BVB player admitted that he enjoys working with this team as he said, according to Sky Sports: “Quality-wise, definitely. We have so many talented players – it’s incredible. You can change one, two, three, four [players] and it is still just about our type of football. You don’t even recognise that someone is missing. We always feel that every single game is going to be tougher and tougher, with every win it feels like our opponents have even more will to beat us. It is going to very challenging but obviously with every win our confidence rises.”
He continued by adding that they have shown quality but haven’t won anything yet: “We have the quality – we have shown it already, but there is still a long, long way to go until we can put our hands on a trophy. We haven’t won anything yet, we are just enjoying it at the moment, maybe more than 19 other teams in the Premier League.”
In the end, Gündogan spoke about himself being back after injury: “I am so happy after that long injury to come back. After every injury, it is getting harder and harder to come back. I’m fit now, I’m healthy and I appreciate to be on the field right now to help my team gain points and win games. I will be there if my team needs me.”
