Ronaldo on whether he will retire at Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo has responded to Florentino Perez’s comment on how he wants the Portuguese to retire at Real Madrid

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner Portugal international continues to impress Real Madrid fans, as he is racking up the match-winning goals and records. His latest one against Gremio earned Los Blancos another silverware, as the Spanish capital side went on to win the Club World Cup on Saturday.

According to AS, when Ronaldo talked to the media at the Zayed Sports City Stadium after being named man of the match in the final, he appeared relaxed and happy; however, his expression hardened when he was asked whether he’d like to finish his career at Real: “If possible, I would… But it’s not something that’s down to me; I’m not the one in charge at the club. We’ll see…”

He was probably aiming at Florentino Perez with his comment, responding to the Real Madrid president’s earlier statement, in which he said he wants to see the Portuguese striker retire at Madrid. It’s not that the 32-year-old doesn’t want the president to say such things, but he has not enjoyed Pérez’s insinuations.

The president has previously suggested that the end of Ronaldo’s period of dominance is fast approaching, and the fact that Perez has increased Madrid’s interest in Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar, didn’t help the situation either.

At the Ballon d’Or gala in Paris last week, Cristiano said that his plan was to hang up his boots as a Real player. Minutes later, Pérez was interviewed by the ceremony’s host, David Ginola, AS continues.

“For me, he’s the most complete player since [Alfredo] Di Stéfano; he’s his heir. As was the case with Di Stéfano, a new era will arrive at Real Madrid after Cristiano,” the president said, making Ronaldo wonder whether he still enjoys the trust of Florentino Perez.
