The midfielder has been linked with a return to Barcelona, but the Bavarians have denied those speculations.
Reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have insisted that Thiago Alcantara will not be returning to his former club at Camp Nou. The 26-year-old joined the Bavarians from Barcelona in 2013 when Pep Guardiola took over the managerial position in Munich. The Spaniard has certainly enjoyed domestic success, claiming five Bundesliga titles and two DFB Pokal, but has not gone past the semi-finals in the Champions League with the Bavarians.
According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, Thiago’s father has hinted at a potential return of his son to Barcelona, but Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić told Bild otherwise: “Thiago extended his contract at Bayern only last year until 2021. He is one of our leading players. I’m not even thinking about a transfer.”
The midfielder is currently recovering from an injury that he suffered in the Champions League clash against Anderlecht in November and Salihamidžić said everything is going according to plan with the Spaniard’s recovery: “Thiago is doing well. Everything is being coordinated with the doctors and going to plan. We have big targets for this year and Thiago will play his part in us achieving these.” he said as quoted by ESPN.
