Liverpool to push for early Keïta arrival

The Reds have been given a significant boost after the Bundesliga side insisted they would be willing to let the Gabon international go for an additional £13m.

Even though Liverpool confirmed the transfer of RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keïta will be completed no sooner than July 1, Klopp’s side might push for his services as early as January following the departure of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona. The ‘Magician’ completed a £142m move to the Catalans, which has left a huge gap in the Reds’ squad and a significant amount of money to be spent.

According to Liverpool Echo, Leipzig are ready to part ways with the box-to-box midfielder if Liverpool pay an additional fee of £13m on top of the initial £48m to help the move through. The Bundesliga side were not willing to consider such an option, but they got knocked out of the Champions League and are ready to change their stance if the player wishes to leave.

RB Leipzig’s CEO, Oliver Mintzlaff, stated earlier this week: “Neither Naby nor his agent have made the request to leave the club in the winter. There are contracts, and they say that he will be a Liverpool employee from July 1 onwards.” said the official as quoted by Liverpool Echo.

However, reports suggest that things have changed and the Bundesliga side are ready to negotiate an early move of Keïta with Liverpool.
