The legendary Argentine is adamant that the Italian is not the solution for his former club.
Diego Maradona has openly disagreed with Sevilla’s decision to appoint Vincenzo Montella as the new manager to take over from Eduardo Berizzo. Berizzo was sacked by the club following an underwhelming start of the new season, but Montella’s spell in Spain has also not started the best way possible after a 5-3 loss to local rivals Real Betis.
Apart from that, the Italian was recently sacked by AC Milan after the Rossoneri fell short of expectations, despite their huge investments during the summer transfer window. Milan lost 6 of their 13 opening Serie A games and have also been looking far from convincing in the Europa League.
And Maradona was left furious with Sevilla’s decision to appoint the Italian, taking into consideration the recent doings of Montella in Italy.
“It is crazy that Montella should take Berizzo’s place,” Maradona wrote on his social media.
“Especially when Montella was kicked out for doing so badly at Milan. There are thousands of coaches who could do the job.
“THE BUSINESSMEN CANNOT CONTROL FOOTBALL (Berizzo must be supported). Or at least put in an alternative. This has to change.”
