Iniesta will not retire following Coutinho’s arrival

The Spanaird has rubbished the speculations that he will soon hang his boots after the ‘Magician’ from Anfield joined Barcelona.

Even though a lot of people tipped Philippe Coutinho as the man to replace Andrés Iniesta at Camp Nou, the World Cup winner insisted he will keep playing for his favourite club.

The Catalans brought serious reinforcement to their squad following the departure of Neymar as they lured Dortmund’s prodigy Ousmane Dembélé in the summer and now tied Coutinho from Liverpool. Despite the new arrivals though, Iniesta insisted he is not going anywhere with one year left on his agreement with the club.

“I’m a player for this club and I’ve always said that only the best can play for this club,” Iniesta said, according to Football Espana.

“That makes Coutinho one of the best. He’s young and he has an innate talent, while Barcelona are a club where he can keep growing.”

“That aside, there will never be a player that can make me retire or kick me out of here. At 33 years of age, that isn’t the issue. Coutinho has come here to improve us.”

“He’ll find a very good environment to grow here. The money we paid for him is another thing.

“The price of the market decides what a player is worth. Beyond the madness, we must be happy that he’s ours.” the Spaniard added regarding the hefty fee paid for the Brazil international.
