Pep warns his squad ahead of Anfield trip

The Citizens boss has made his players aware of their poor record against Liverpool whenever they play away from the Etihad, says Walker.

Manchester City right-back has revealed that his coach made sure that his team knows what they are going to face on Sunday. The Premier League leaders have a poor record of 14 losses out of 20 games at Anfield and Guardiola would certainly like to change that. The Citizens head into the game unbeaten, 15 points clear on top and having already trashed Liverpool in the first half of the season 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite their convincing win in September though, Guardiola has warned his players about the club’s record in Liverpool. “Yes, yes. The gaffer’s made us well aware of that [record].” Walker told Sky Sports.

“He has said to us that sometimes, if you’ve not been winning there for all these years it needs to be something that is coming from within us and we need to change that.”

With the Citizens flying high, Walker has also admitted that he does have the World Cup on the back of his mind, hoping that he would be part of the group that will travel to Russia.

“It’s in the back of your mind because you want to be on that plane,” the Englishman added. “You need to be playing well at your club to make sure you are on that plane. So it is in the back of my mind but first and foremost, it’s Manchester City at the minute.”
