Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on David Silva after his brace secured Manchester City a 2-0 win over Stoke City on Monday night
After Manchester United’s 2-1 win against Liverpool over the weekend, City arrived at the Britannia Stadium looking to restore their 16 point lead at the top of the Premier League standings. Two goals from Silva secured the three points for Guardiola’s side and the coach was full of praise for his compatriot.
“The goals, I am happy for David today, he has scored a lot of goals this season and the minutes he played,” said Guardiola, according to Sky Sports.
“He controlled the tempo perfectly. Normally people talk about his skills and technical ability and after that, he cannot be an aggressive competitor. And he has both.
“There are no doubts about his skills, but after that, in the bad moments he is always there, he controlled the game, the tempo and to help us have more control.
“And I think the mix, with especially David, and Ilkay Gundogan, they are more aggressive and attacking with more runs in behind, and that also helps us a lot to control the games.”
Silva has now scored a total of 9 goals with 11 assists in his 33 games across all competitions this season, as City look to secure the triple this season.
