Massimiliano Allegri has warned his Juventus side not to get carried after their comfortable 2-0 win over Atalanta opened up a four point gap at the top of the Serie A standings
Goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi sealed the three points for Allegri’s side, who are currently aiming to win the Serie A for an unprecedented seventh consecutive time. While pleased to have opened up a gap from Napoli at the top of the league standings, Allegri warned his side of being complacent.
“We mustn’t start thinking the Scudetto is suddenly in the bag,” said Allegri, according to the club website.
“It’s a decisive stage of the season but we must take things one step at a time, keep our heads and replenish our mental energy. You have to keep raising the bar in every game.
“Napoli are right up there behind us and we need lots of points to win the title.
“Now we have to play SPAL and it’s never easy to win in Ferrara. We’re expecting a real battle.”
The Italian also expressed pride in his side’s defence with Juventus now boasting the best defence in the league after another clean sheet.
“I’m more interested in the defensive side,” revealed Allegri.
“Enthusiasm is important and it’s wonderful to see Buffon and Chiellini like that, even after everything they’ve won. It means they’ve still got the same hunger.”
Allegri also paid tribute to Higuain, who both scored and provided Matuidi with an assist later in the match.
“Gonzalo’s really high on confidence at the moment and he’s started setting up his team-mates now.
“[Paulo] Dybala’s fitness is improving and the whole team is on the up from a physical point of view.
“The good thing is we made five or six change to the side on Sunday and we did the same again today but the result didn’t change. We want to go all the way together.”
