The Tottenham Hotspur manager recently claimed that winning the Premier League is the true test for his team, not the FA Cup.
He is yet to win a trophy since joining the Spurs but is now closing in on one – the team has now reached the quarter-final phase of the FA Cup and will be playing against Swansea on Saturday afternoon.
Pochettino believes it is the short format and the luck that separate his team from the ones that are winning league titles.
“The Premier League or La Liga or the Bundesliga or the Calcio (Serie A), not only you need luck – you need to deserve to win this type of title,” the manager shared, according to SkySports.
“Then there are short competitions, like in the World Cup. When Argentina arrived in Japan (2002 World Cup), I think we were first in the FIFA classifications but we didn’t arrive in the best form and were out in the group stage. You need luck,” Pochettino added, addressing the fact that he has not won a single trophy with the Spurs since joining.
