Ruben Semedo, Villarreal’s defender, appealed for bail but it was rejected as he awaits trial on quite a few charges, attempted murder being only one of them.
Semedo was arrested in February and charged with illegal detention, illegal possession of weapons, robbery with violence and attempted murder. He himself has denied the allegations on numerous occasions.
A judge at Valencia’s Superior Court of Justice has recently denied the appeal for bail, which was made by Portugal’s Under-21 lawyer, due to “an obvious risk to the integrity” of the alleged victim. This has cast a shadow of doubt in the consequence of events, which was shared by Semedo from prison in Picasent, according to Goal.
The team have suspended their now-former player without pay.
The defender was acquired by Villarreal from Sporting CP for the sum of 14 million euro in last June. Despite the big sum, he has had only 5 appearances this season.
