FC Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa has revealed that he wants Iker Casillas to stay with the club for next season
The former Spain international has been with the Primeira Liga leaders since July 2015 and is set to be released at the end of the current season due to his wages being too high for the club to maintain.
But Diario AS has now been reported that Casillas, who has recently regained his place as Porto’s first-choice goalkeeper earlier this season, is willing to lower his wage demands in an effort to remain with the club beyond his current deal.
“Of course, we want Casillas to stay with us,” said Pinto da Costa, according to Football-Espana.
“We are happy that Iker is at the club, he is a great goalkeeper and a great person, he has demonstrated that he is a major player for us.
“I cannot guarantee that he would stay, but I would like it if he did.”
AS has also reported that Casillas is not short of interest with clubs in America, the UAE, China and Mexico all heavily interested in securing the 36 year-old’s services.
