Buffon discusses World Cup regret

Gianluigi Buffon sat down and discussed his biggest World Cup regret as the Italian team will not be participating in the World Cup for the first time in a while.

Buffon discussed happy and sad memories from his life and career as the time to officially announce his future is fast approaching. He claimed his biggest regret is not making it to a six World Cup appearances.

If Italy were to go to Russia in the summer, Buffon would most certainly be a part of the squad. However, Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1958.

“You need talent, but also effort, to be able to suffer as you do sometimes. It is gratifying, as only a few of us have played in five World Cups. It was great to play two in Europe, one in Asia, one in Africa and one in America,” Buffon said, according to Football Italia.

“I’ve played on every continent. It would have been special to play in a sixth World Cup, I’ll always have that regret, but sometimes you have to be content in life. Evidently, I wasn’t good enough to go to a sixth World Cup.”
