Arsenal in advanced talks with Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper

Arsenal boss Unai Emery is hoping to strengthen his squad with £20m Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

The Reds are negotiating to sign Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Leno as well as Uruguay and Sampdoria holding midfielder Lucas Torreira, according to Telegraph.

Arsenal goalkeeper and central midfield have been two major priorities for Emery and there is now a firm interest in both Leno and Torreira.

Emery had already bolstered the defence with the free transfer of Stephan Lichtsteiner and a £16 million deal for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Leno missed out a place in the Germany World Cup squad and this move would cost Arsenal around £20 million and his transfer suggests either Petr Cech or David Ospina will be sold too as both goalkeepers have one year remaining on their contracts.

Torreira is in Russia with Uruguay for the start of the World Cup and, while a deal is not yet agreed, it is understood that negotiations have focused on the structure of the payments, with Arsenal ready to spend in excess of £25 million if the fee is spread over several years.
