Germany striker Thomas Muller who needs seven goals in Russia to become the highest goalscorer ever in the World Cup has set his sights on World Cup glory this summer and has even made plans celebrating it.

He is particularly interested in helping his country defend the title they won four years ago in Brazil but also revealed his love for darts keep him and his international team-mates entertained during downtime at major tournaments. He also has a desperate ambition to join the thousands flocking to North London to watch the best throwers lock horns at the PDC world championship after the World Cup this summer.

‘When we’re away with Germany we stay in a hotel and normally we try to have a few possibilities to go outside, to play tennis, golf, chipping, putting – something to relax,’ Muller said, according to Daily Mail.

‘We also play a little darts. I’m a big fan of the PDC events, and Michael van Gerwen has been my favourite player.

‘But Rob Cross was amazing in Ally Pally last year. I’d love to go and watch it.

‘I’m going to have to wait until after my career, maybe it’s a bit too much drinking to be doing now. You have 20 beers or something else when you’re there.’

Germany players have high confidence in themselves as they are heading into the tournament as one of the favourites to go all the way. Muller also admits he is optimistic he would not be concerned by the prospect of meeting Gareth Southgate’s England side in the quarter-finals.

‘That’s fine for us,’ he said. ‘We will see after the tournament if this is a new England or not.

‘For us it is important to get through the group stage and then in the knock-out, anything can happen, also for the new England!’
