Russia manager Stanislav Cherchesov believes that Argentina depend on Lionel Messi so much that without him they are unable to cope
In the Barcelona star’s absence, La Albiceleste lost in friendlies to both Nigeria and Spain with the latter ending up being a 6-1 humiliation at Madrid back in March.
While Nigeria produced a superb comeback against Argentina last November by coming from two goals down to win 4-2 in Krasnodar.
”Argentina’s problem is that they are not psychologically prepared to play without Messi,” Cherchésov told La Vanguardia.
”I’m not saying it’s a team of one player, but they can not play without him. This was when, after the match with us, they played against Nigeria, and also lost to Spain. They depend on Messi. ”
Russia will officially start the World Cup today when they play their Group A opener against Saudi Arabia at the Luzhniki Stadium.
Meanwhile, Nigeria will face Argentina against in Group D in their final game on June 26.
