Barcelona are being tipped to name Athletic Bilbao manager Ernesto Valverde as the coach who will replace Luis Enrique next season. The formal announcement will be made on 29th May, after the Copa del Rey final, according to Sport-English.

Valverde is already being linked with Barcelona, as he is working in a Catalan club as a sporting director, to think about the upcoming season. He didn’t want any bad interpretations and therefore he didn’t want to start working directly with Barcelona until the Basque club’s season finished. He is currently scouting some players from reserve team, as well he will see the positions, which need to get improved for the next season.

There are speculations that the team will get new players for positions like right-back, complete midfielder, a winger and maybe a left-footed center-back, who can also play at left-back.

The most likely player for a winger position is a former Barcelona player Gerard Deulofeu. There is a decision to be made by Valverde, whether to take up the €12m (£10m) option to re-sign Gerard Deulofeu.

Other than Valverde, former Camp Nou players Ronald Koeman and Eusebio Sacristan were rumored to have been options, as well as ex-Chile boss Jorge Sampaoli. Even Arsène Wenger was briefly linked with the job.

Barcelona will be hoping that Valverde appointment can help them overcome Real Madrid in next year’s title race, as they came up three points short in this campaign.
