The Red Devils remain unbeaten in their pre-season after winning against Real Madrid on penalties in the International Champions Cup.
David De Gea had a great game and once again proved his worth against Los Blancos who are keen admirers of the goalkeeper. The Spain international saved penaltes from Mateo Kovačić and Óscar, before Casemiro hit the crossbar with, having scored from the penalty spot in normal time.
United took the lead shortly after half-time after a sensational piece of skill from Martial who toyed with Madrid’s Dani Carvajal, Luka Modrić and Lucas Vázquez to give Jesse Lingard the ball on a plate as he finished the attack accurately.
Casemiro was the one to level things with a penalty after Victor Lindelöf was late in his tackle towards rampaging Theo Hernández and fouled the Real Madrid player.
Both managers made a lot of changes during half-time as Zidane changed his entire starting XI, while Mourinho made eight substitutions. The game ended 1-1 in normal time and The Red Devils were the better team at shooting from the 12 yard spot, in what seemed to be one of the worst penalty shootouts ever with a total of 3 penalties scored out of 10.
Machester United remain without a loss in four games while Zidane’s squad lost their first pre-season game.
The clubs will soon clash again as Madrid face United in the UEFA Super Cup in Skopje next month.
