Stoke City have announced the appointment of Derby boss Gary Rowett as their new manager

The English coach replaces Paul Lambert, who left the club after they were relegated from the Premier League.

Rowett, who had only signed a new contract at Derby earlier this year, has now agreed on a deal with Stoke that will see him in charge on the Potters until 2021.

“We are delighted to be able to move so quickly to secure Gary’s services and we are now looking forward to working with him towards our objective of returning to the Premier League as soon as possible,” owners Peter and John Coates told the club website.

After a difficult start to the season, Stoke fired Mark Hughes and hired Lambert in a desperate bid to resurrect their campaign.

However, in his 15 games in charge at the Bet365 Stadium, he only managed to secure two wins for the struggling side with Stoke later confirmed as relegated after their defeat to Crystal Palace in their penultimate match of the season.
