Togo manager Claude Le Roy has backed Morocco to cause an upset by defeating Portugal in the World Cup

The French tactician is confident that the African teams will perform well in world football’s biggest stage and believes that Senegal and Morocco will do especially well at Russia.

“I’m betting on Morocco and Senegal,” Le Roy told L’Equipe, via African Football.

“Effectively, I see Morocco because Hervé Renard is training them. More seriously, they will give a lot of trouble to many people, with their block very well organised, I see them finish in front of Portugal.”

Morocco will be making their first World Cup appearance in 20 years.

However, the Atlas Lions are not expected to progress past the group stages after having been drawn alongside 2010 World Cup winners Spain and the defending European champions Portugal in Group B.

Morocco will begin their World Cup campaign against Iran on Friday and will face Portugal on June 20, before wrapping up the group stages with a final game against Spain on June 25.
