Alan Shearer, former captain of the international team of England, hailed the job well done, following the exquisite display of football the squad put up.
Southgate’s team totally dominated the first half and went into the halftime break leading 5-0, thanks to Harry Kane, John Stones and Jesse Lingard. Kane then went on to complete his hattrick in the second half.
The win meant the team just secured a place in the last-16 of the tournament.
“A job very well done. We knew it would slow down in the second half, they could not keep that pace up. They looked after themselves, protected themselves in that second half, and were well within their rights to do that,” Shearer said, according to BT Sport.
“A magnificent day, a magnificent performance. Every single one of them can go away and be very proud of it. The only down side was Raheem Sterling never got a goal, that would have been the perfect day, but everything was superb.”
