The race for Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario appears to be heating up with Real Betis the latest club to express an interest in signing him, claims Sport
Mario had spent the latter part of last season on loan at West Ham United, where he scored two goals in 13 Premier League appearances.
A permanent move to the Hammers this summer appears unlikely though with David Moyes having been removed as head coach in favour of Manuel Pellegrini, who has already signed new midfielders for the club.
But Mario’s hopes of an exit from Inter in this summer’s transfer window remain strong with the newly-promoted Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers having been strongly linked with a move.
But Betis have now emerged as a possible destination for the Portugal international this summer with the La Liga side interested in acquiring him in a season-long loan.
The move would see Mario join his Portugal teammate William Carvalho in Andalucia, following his move from Sporting Lisbon this summer.
Betis are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to Europe after finishing in sixth place in La Liga last season with 60 points.
