Now that we have talked about the best arrivals in Serie A this summer, we will also tell you about the most shocking exits in the Italian tournament that we experienced.
Even if this season is more of an arrival bonanza, the Italian Serie A had some of the most shocking exits from different clubs that left a lot of people speechless. Not all the players who left their clubs actually stopped playing in Serie A, but all of them surprised the fans with their announcement because of the history that many of these footballers have with the institutions they left. We give you the Top 5 most shocking Serie A exits so far this summer, a list of players who left their club in an unexpected manner and none of us expected. We will try to go from most to less shocking exit, list them from 1 to 5.
— Gianluigi Buffon (@gianluigibuffon) July 13, 2018
1.- Gianluigi Buffon.
The legendary Italian goalkeeper had already announced that he would be retiring after the end of last season, but nothing prepares you to the kind of heartbreak that brings watching one of your childhood idols leave his beloved club. Just as it happened with other Italian legends such as Paolo Maldini with AC Milan or Francesco Totti with AS Roma more recently, Buffon’s farewell with Juventus was an emotional day that every single football fan will cherish forever. We all thought that ‘Gigi’ was going to retire being 40 and all, but the veteran goalkeeper just signed a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain this summer and he will play alongside Neymar, Cavani, and Kylian Mbappé to try and win the Champions League this season.

2.- Leonardo Bonucci.
He already shook the whole Serie A world last season when he left Juventus looking for a new challenge at AC Milan, but it took him only one year and Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival to the Vecchia Signora to realize that the only place where he could fight for all the trophies would be Juventus. Bonucci was part of an unexpected swap between both club in which Juve included Gonzalo Higuain and exchanged him for the Italian defender, his arrival is great news for Cristiano who is looking to win another Champions League as a player and he will need all the help he can get.

3.- Alisson Becker.
The Brazilian goalkeeper who played for AS Roma was happy with the capital club, but his prestige grew exponentially after a fantastic World Cup performance he had and many clubs started knocking on the Italian club’s door. The one that offered more money was Liverpool and they ended up snatching him this summer, Alisson will play for the Reds for the next five seasons and he leaves a huge void in Serie A because now they are missing another great goalkeeper. In order to cover the Brazilian’s exit, Roma signed Swedish goalkeeper Robin Olsen after the great World Cup performance he offered.

4.- Radja Nainggolan.
Just when we thought that a place like AS Roma was willing to put up with all the off-the-field antics of Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan, they go and seel him this summer for €38 million. This is a prime example of a uniquely talented player who is on the brink of throwing it all away just to prove a point, we get that he has that whole rebellious attitude but he also needs to understand that in order to make it in this business, you need to have a lot of discipline and talent alone won’t take you far. We can only hope that this new chapter in his career playing for Inter, brings out the best of his qualities and he succeeds at the end.

5.- Gonzalo Higuain.
When the announcement of Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival to Juventus was first made, Gonzalo Higuain started fantasizing about the possibility of winning many trophies alongside the Portuguese star. But soon after CR7’s arrival, it was clear that the Argentine striker wasn’t going to last, the €9 million per year salary was too steep to pay him when the club already had one goal-scoring machine at their service. Knowing he would lose the battle, ‘Pipita’ agreed to play for AC Milan in exchange for Leonardo Bonucci and now he will compete against Cristiano.
