Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone would rather sign Neymar over Kylian Mbappe if he had to pick between the Paris Saint-Germain duo
The two forwards are now the world’s most expensive footballers in history after Mbappe’s stay at PSG was made permanent this summer for €180m.
The French teenage sensation has managed 25 goals in 47 appearances for PSG, although Neymar has scored 32 goals in 35 games for the Ligue 1 giants.
And Simone is in no doubt that he would choose the Brazil captain due to his greater tactical understanding of the game rather than the young Mbappe.
“Neymar. In the Barcelona team of Luis Enrique, when he needed to work, he worked. Mbappe is more individualistic and doesn’t have a definitive role. Neymar has a fixed position,” Simeone told Cadena COPE.

The Argentine coach was also made it clear over his discontent with Antoine Griezmann’s “bizarre” omission from FIFA’s The Best award
Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Mohamed Salah have been selected in the three-man shortlist for the award instead.
“He hasn’t had an explanation – World Cup winner, Super Cup, Europa League, second in LaLiga, best player in the [World Cup] final,” said Simeone.
“In this past year, he was the best in the world. It is a pity. We do not underestimate ourselves to think that it is because he plays for Atletico, it will be a lack of imagination of people who choose.
“Obviously it disappoints a little. But it’s clear that Griezmann was the best last season.”
Griezmann turned down interest from Barcelona in June by signing a new contract with Atletico to 2023.
“I swear on my kids that I never saw us losing him,” Simeone said.
“I never saw him at Barcelona. I always felt like he would stay.”
