Cristiano Ronaldo is the world’s best player and will fire Juventus to Champions League glory this year, according to teammate Blaise Matuidi

The 33-year-old is yet to get off the mark with the Bianconeri in the Serie A following their first three games of the new season.

But Ronaldo has often excelled in Europe and has inspired Real Madrid to win the Champions League four times in the past five years.

Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero predicted last week that Ronaldo’s fortunes at Turin may quickly change come the start of their Champions League campaign away to Valencia next week.

And Matuidi is backing Ronaldo to do just that as Juventus look to bring an end to their 22-year wait for European success.

“Ronaldo has something different, we are talking about a player who has won five Ballons d’Or,” Matuidi told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We can say that he is the best in the world and we can only be happy to have him with us.

“For sure his experience is one of winning a lot, especially in the Champions League.

“It will help us in the crucial moments of the season. We will see it at work, this time on our side.”

The Italians will also face Manchester United and Young Boys in Group H.

It means that Ronaldo will return to Old Trafford on October 23 for only the second time since he left for Real Madrid in 2009.

Meanwhile, United midfielder Paul Pogba will also reunite with his former Juventus colleagues.

“We’ve been joking with Paul,” Matuidi said Pogba.

“We’ve arranged to meet on the pitch in Manchester.

“Our group is hard, not just because of Manchester United, but also Valencia.

“They will be good matches though, we’re prepared, we’ve been working hard in training to give it our all in the league and the Champions League.

“We have a very strong squad, with a lot of players who can express themselves over the season.”
