It’s time to talk about the most impressive signings that the most successful club in football history ever bought, the Spanish giants Real Madrid.

In football history, Spanish giants Real Madrid have some of the most impressive transfer stories ever told and their signings are perhaps amongst the most incredible. It’s time to dig into the history of the five most amazing arrivals that came to Real Madrid and helped change the club’s history forever, this is a club that almost never relied on its academy and they got their best talents ever from spending the big bucks to bring some of the best players who ever lived and played for Los Blancos. 1.- Alfredo di Stefano.

Back in the days when Don Santiago Bernabeu owned Real Madrid and started the initiative of the first ever European Cup tournament, he had the idea of signing a franchise player who would change the club’s history forever. Alfredo di Stefano was a proved talent and the best player of his generation who came to Real Madrid to revolutionize football. Before Pele came to leave everyone in awe, there was Alfredo di Stefano who was born in Argentina and first was going to sign for FC Barcelona but Santiago Bernabeu beat the Catalan club to the punch. The Argentine player marked an era in Spanish football and Europe, he won the first five European Cups in history playing for Los Blancos and forming a dynasty that still keeps this club as the most successful in football history.

2.- Cristiano Ronaldo.

Don Alfredo won five European Cups with Real Madrid and scored a ton of goals for Los Blancos, his record was later beaten by Raul Gonzalez Blanco. But this record didn’t last because Cristiano Ronaldo had arrived and was scoring more than a goal per match since day one, the Portuguese forward never slowed his pace and became the club’s all-time top scorer in a record nine seasons. Collectively he won four Champions League trophies in the last five years and then left searching for new challenges as a professional, but the mark he left as a Real Madrid player will be remembered as one of the most glorious ones in the club’s long history. Ronaldo already is one of the best players in football history, thanks to everything he did wearing a Real Madrid shirt. His €93 million price tag quickly became a true bargain for the club, nobody even cares how expensive he was now.

3.- Zinedine Zidane.

Another one of the all-time greats, Zinedine Zidane’s name is forever linked to success and will be forever remembered as one of the most unbelievable stories ever told. The man got to win trophies both for his clubs and for his country, but his time at Real Madrid was without question the most successful of all. As a player, ‘Zizou’ managed to become the most expensive player at the time after Florentino Perez paid Juventus a record €75 million. The Frenchman was able to pay back his price tag just a year after, by winning the club’s ninth European Cup in history with a mythical volley goal scored by him in the final against Bayer Leverkusen played in Glasgow. Then as a manager, Zidane kept his winning streak by winning a record three consecutive Champions League trophies during his first three seasons with Real Madrid.

4.- Roberto Carlos.

Coming from an obscure spell at Internazionale Milano, Roberto Carlos came to Real Madrid as one of the club’s least expected transfers who instantly became a fan favorite due to the player’s sacrifice and skills with the ball at his feet. With Los Blancos, Roberto Carlos became a legend due to his impressive skills to strike the ball with his left foot. Every defender knew what fear was after they stood behind a Roberto Carlos free-kick and they will always remember the amazing talent this Brazilian has, he also won several trophies with his country including the 2002 World Cup in Japan on the same year he won the ninth European Cup trophy with Los Blancos.

5.- Hugo Sanchez.

As the transfer that can be considered one of the most controversial in Spanish football’s history, Hugo Sanchez never had a single doubt that he wanted to change the red and white stripes for a fully white uniform between clubs from the same city in Spain. The Atletico Madrid fans still remember the Mexican striker with passionate hatred, Hugo got to win on Pichichi trophy for the Colchoneros and then won another four consecutive recognitions playing for Real Madrid. El ‘Macho’ is always remembered as one of the best strikers in Los Blancos’ history, but he is also one of the most infamous figures in Atletico Madrid’s history. Hated and loved equally by many, Hugo Sanchez will always be linked to the city of Madrid and to Spanish football.
