Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez claims that he rejected a move to Real Madrid

Hernandez has been at Atletico since 2017 with a total of 95 appearances in all competitions having already been made.

The 22-year-old’s younger brother Theo, currently on loan at Real Sociedad, plays for Atletico’s city rivals Real.

Now Hernandez has revealed that he had the chance to reunite with his brother by making a controversial move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“I didn’t pay too much attention [to the offer],” He told RMC Sport. “I was 100 per cent focused on my club, where I had recently signed a new contract.

“My agent told me about it. When he said there was an opportunity to go to Real Madrid, I told him I couldn’t do that.

“Atletico are my club, a team who have given me everything. I’m an honest person and I couldn’t go to Madrid.

“I hope I can stay here for a very long time, but football moves very fast. If an offer comes in that I can’t refuse…”

Hernandez has featured seven times for Atletico this season and is with the France squad ahead of their games against Iceland and Germany.
